Now that you have arrived, you are probably excited to start your life in Ontario . You may also be confused about your next steps. The YMCA of Greater Toronto is here to help. You can visit one of our YMCA Newcomer Centres whenever you like to get the information you need about settling in Toronto.

When you visit the YMCA Newcomer Centre, you can:

• Get a referral to a settlement agency where the people speak your own language and can give you information about how to find a place to live and where to buy food, clothing or furniture at a low cost
• Learn how the YMCA can help you find a job
• Find out how to use Toronto ’s transportation system, how to get a bank account and where to shop
• Use our computers for free to research information
• Register your children in school or child care
• Evaluate your education and work skills
• Attend our information sessions to learn about Canadian society, employment, workplace culture and more
• Meet with a specialist to discuss your personal needs
• Learn where to find a qualified interpreter or translator
• Assess your current English language skills through the  YMCA Language Assessment and Referral Centre and find out the appropriate language program for you 
• Get help completing government forms, including applications for healthcare, a driver’s license  and child tax benefits
• Learn about other government support systems, such as income security, social assistance and community resources
• Find recreational and cultural activities that can help you integrate into your new community
